Nagarhole at a glance
Nagarhole lies in the Kodagu and Mysuru districts of Karnataka and is part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, contiguous with Bandipur across the Kabini reservoir. The forest mixes moist and dry deciduous woodland with swamps and grassland, which is why tigers, leopards, elephants, gaur, dhole and a long list of birds share it. Allow roughly four to five hours by road from Bengaluru.
Nagarhole safari timings and gates
Safaris run in a morning and an afternoon slot, roughly 6 am to 9:30 am and 3 pm to 6:30 pm, and the timings shift with the season. Entry points include the Veeranahosahalli and Nanachi gates and the Kabini (Damanakatte) side. We confirm the slot and gate when we book your trip.
Jeep, canter and the Kabini boat safari
Land safaris are by jeep or canter. Jeeps carry fewer people, are quieter and are better for photography; canters are cheaper. On the Kabini side there is also a boat safari on the reservoir, good for elephants at the water's edge and for birds. Ask us if you want the boat safari added.
Best time to visit Nagarhole
The park can be visited from about October to May. Summer (March to May) draws animals to the water and is the classic season for tigers and leopards; the post-monsoon months are green and good for birds. Heavy monsoon rain makes forest tracks difficult.
Who leads the trip
Every Tentasy trip is led by a naturalist from our team, with small groups, a photographer on the trip and strict distance and no-baiting rules around wildlife. Meet them on our About page.

Nagarhole trip FAQ
How do I book a Nagarhole safari?
Tell us your dates and group size on WhatsApp or the contact form. Tentasy books the stay, safaris and transport as one package, so you do not need to book slots yourself.
What are the Nagarhole safari timings?
Two slots a day, roughly 6 am to 9:30 am and 3 pm to 6:30 pm. Timings change with the season, and we confirm them at booking.
What is the difference between Nagarhole and Kabini?
Kabini is the reservoir and the backwater side of the same forest, popular for boat safaris and elephants. Nagarhole is the national park and tiger reserve. Both belong to the same landscape.
Is the boat safari worth it?
On the Kabini side, yes: the water's edge is good for elephants and birds, and the light is lovely. It complements, rather than replaces, a jeep or canter safari.
Can I do Nagarhole as a weekend trip from Bengaluru?
Yes. Our 2-night, 3-day trip is designed for that: you leave Bengaluru and return with a safari, a waterfall and an estate walk in between.
What does the Tentasy trip include?
Travel insurance, all three meals, a goodie bag, all safari and park-entry fees, and AC transport from pickup and back. Travel to the meeting point and personal expenses are not included.
