30-day West India itinerary: Delhi to Gir and the coast
The expedition crosses Rajasthan and Gujarat in four movements and 16 milestones. It starts in Delhi, moves through Agra and Rajasthan's forts, lake palaces and desert camps, crosses to Gujarat for the White Desert of Kutch and the 4,500-year-old city of Dholavira, and ends with wildlife and coast at Little Rann, Velavadar, Gir and Diu, finishing in Ahmedabad.
Gir National Park: Asiatic lion safaris
Gir is the last refuge of the Asiatic lion, and the only wild population on Earth. Safaris are open-jeep drives through teak forest. Lion sightings are never guaranteed, but the park offers some of the best chances anywhere. Tentasy arranges the safaris with naturalist support.
Wildlife of Gujarat: Velavadar, Little Rann and Marine National Park
Velavadar is India's finest savanna grassland, with blackbuck herds and wolves. The Little Rann of Kutch shelters the Indian wild ass and big flocks of flamingos and cranes. Marine National Park in the Gulf of Kutch is an optional add-on for coral ecosystems and tidal reef walks.
Rajasthan's forts, lake palaces and desert camps
The Rajput leg takes in Jaipur, a desert stay at Khimsar, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer's golden dunes and Udaipur's lake palaces. For a shorter Rajasthan trip with a tiger safari, see our Rajasthan wildlife tour.
